Five-year-old Power Under Me continued the fine run of Mehmas at Leopardstown on Sunday when successful in the Group 3 Amethyst Stakes for Ger Lyons.
The gelding has been a fine servant for connections as the winner of five races, including the Listed Testimonial Stakes as a three-year-old and Listed Cork and Knockaire Stakes at four. On Sunday, he made the successful step into Pattern company in style to gun down the second You Send Me and win going away.
“Power Under Me is probably between trips,” said trainer Ger Lyons. “He loves that ground, though. Listed and Group 3 is within his remit all day long. We might see the best of him later in the year, but he owes us nothing. The only negative is that Vincent (Gaul, owner) is not here today as he’s at home at a house party. He loves his racing and it’s a pity he’s not here to see him.”
Power Under Me was bred by Barbel Weiss out of the Arakan mare Oonagh, a half-sister to the talented pair Parbold and Majestic Myles.
He becomes the 13th Group/Graded winner for Mehmas and is one of 21 stakes winners overall for the stallion.
