A brilliant autumn for Mehmas continued on Friday as he fired in this third 2yo stakes winner of the week courtesy of Star Of Mehmas' victory in the Listed Harry Rosebery Stakes at Ayr.
The appropriately named filly, trained by Richard Hughes on behalf of Jaber Abdullah, made it three on the bounce with an authoritative score over Uncle Don in a quick time.
Star Of Mehmas follows Scorthy Champy and Aesterius as 2yo stakes winners of the past week for Mehmas, who remains Europe's dominant 2yo sire by seasonal earnings and number of winners. Last Friday, Aesterius captured the Group 2 Flying Childers Stakes for Wathnan Racing, having previously taken the Group 3 Prix d'Arenberg. And two days later, it was the turn of Scorthy Champ to shine when landing the Group 1 Vincent O'Brien National Stakes at the Curragh.
"Star Of Mehmas broke nicely and went through the gears well," said jockey Billy Loughnane. "She's very straightforward and she was tough when I asked her to pick up. Mr Hughes said to have her in the first couple and see how she goes, she has a good cruising speed."
Star Of Mehmas was bred by Trevor Stewart and James Hanly out of Caelica, a Sea The Stars half-sister to the Classic-placed East from the family of Cheveley Park Stakes heroine Pass The Peace.
Now the winner of three of four races, Star Of Mehmas becomes the 33rd stakes winner for Mehmas.
