Kodiac's daughter Zarinsk made all the running to take the Group 3 Cornelscourt Stakes at Leopardstown on Sunday and become the 40th Group/Grade stakes winner for her sire.
The Juddmonte-homebred put her early pace to good use to open up a healthy lead over the 11-strong field. At one time three lengths clear of the field, she answered all of Colin Keane’s calls to maintain an advantage and win by a length-and-a-quarter from Tarawa.
“Zarinsk is an honest filly,” said trainer Ger Lyons. “Ground is no issue to her. I would like her to relax a bit more in her races. It's all about black-type with her and she will step up now to Group 2. Hopefully she can progress and be a filly for Champions Weekend.”
Zarinsk enjoyed the highlight of her juvenile campaign at last year’s Irish Champions Weekend when the easy winner of the Listed Ingabelle Stakes. Now the winner of three of six races, she is out of the Listed-winning Arch mare Pavlosk, a member of Juddmonte’s excellent Zaizafon family also responsible for Zafonic and Zamindar.
She capped an excellent weekend for Kodiac, also represented by the 2,000 Guineas runner-up Hi Royal.
