Cotai Glory foals to the fore at Goffs

Pinhookers showed their regard for Cotai Glory during the opening session of the Goffs November Sale on Monday. Our popular stallion was responsible for four of the lots to make north of €60,000 led by a colt out of Cantata, for whom KM Bloodstock gave €85,000.

The colt was bred by Rory Maher of Forge Bloodstock and sold by Ardreigh Stud.

He’s by a hard-knocking stallion who is capable of getting a very good horse," said buyer Paul McCartan. "Marie [Paul’s wife] saw him first and took me to see him. I loved him from the first time I saw him, and I loved him again this morning. “We had to go to our best to buy him and he cost a few quid, but I am very happy to have him. He looks like a good horse, with a very good temperament, and he will be back for resale next October.”

Rory Maher was understandably delighted with the result. He told reporters: “We thought he was a fabulous foal from the day he was born; we were stone mad about him. He has great movement, he’s all quality, and has a super attitude. Philip O’Dwyer [Ardreigh Stud], a good friend of ours, consigned the foal. He did a super job. We’ve still got the mare and she’s in foal to Good Guess.”

Cotai Glory was also responsible for a colt out of Fabricated, a winning daughter of Pride Of Dubai, who was sold by Sandra Russell for €72,000 to Flash Conroy's Glenvale Stud.

Cotai Glory had the Mill Reef winner and they like him in Hong Kong," said Conroy. "He is a very good-looking foal I thought.”

There was also a good result for Rossenarra Stud in the sale of their Cotai Glory colt out of Heavenly Mark for €64,000 while Owenstown Stud sold their colt out of Lady Beware for €62,000 to Ihor and Andriy Prokhorchuk.

"Cotai Glory is an excellent stallion," Andriy explained to the EBN. "We had some success pinhooking a colt from his first crop named Dig Two. He was very fast; he finished second in the [Listed] Windsor Castle Stakes at Royal Ascot. It’s great to get back into the stallion all these years later; we’re very happy to have another colt by him in our stable. They’re hard to buy, everyone seems to want one. Hopefully we’ll be lucky."

There was also a good result for Starman in the sale of a colt out of Miss Blue Sky who was sold by Stanley Lodge to us for €75,000.
