A fine afternoon for Kodiac on Monday was capiped by the success of Juddmonte-homebred Straight Answer for Juddmonte and Ger Lyons in the Listed Ballyhane Blenheim Stakes at Fairyhouse.
His authoritative win came on the same afternoon that two-year-old Carbon broke his maiden at Leicester and Nomadic Empire won off 93 on the same card.
Straight Answer came into the race off the back of an easy debut win at the Curragh. Settled in front on this occasion by Colin Keane, the colt quickened clear in the manner of a good horse to win well by almost six lengths.
“Straight Answer is a grand, big colt, as fine a Kodiac as I've seen,” said Ger Lyons. “He's always shown promise. That could be him for the year. I always had him as a seven-furlong or mile horse but the Commonwealth Cup would come into your thoughts after that. It's a lovely problem to have.”
Bred by Juddmonte, Straight Answer is out of the Group-placed Straight Thinking, a Mizzen Mast half-sister to Group 1 winner Announce. Further back it is the family of Zafonic.
He becomes the 72th stakes winner for Kodiac.
