'I like them as a bunch and think he has got every chance' - 100,000gns filly for Starman

Headed by a top price of 100,000gns, there was more positive reaction for Starman this week in Newmarket at the Tattersalls Somerville Sale.

Richard Ryan, acting for Teme Valley, struck the winning bid for the 100,000gns lot in question, our half-sister to Palace House Stakes winner Seven Questions out of Get Up And Dance.

“She will be the first horse that Teme Valley has with Karl,” said Ryan. “She is a lovely filly and out of a proven mare who has produced a Palace House winner. Karl also trained Boogie Time [another half-brother who won five races] and felt this was a step up as an individual. I have been looking for a nice horse for Karl for some time and she fits all the criteria.

“I like the sire. I quite like them as a bunch and think he has got every chance.”

Starman was also represented by a filly who will join the Amo Racing team after selling for 70,000gns to Alex Elliott and Megan Nicholls. Co-bred by us with vendor Ballyvolane Stud, the filly is the first foal out of the winning Mehmas mare Herb Of Grace, a half-sister to Group 1 performer Euphrasia.

Oliver St Lawrence also went to 65,000gns for Hillwood Stud's colt out of Rohlindi while Will Edmeades paid 52,000gns for our colt out of Aurora Eclipse.

Of the three six-figure lots sold during the sale, Cotai Glory accounted for another one, a colt bred by Cheveley Park Stud out of Millvini who made 100,000gns to Alex Elliott out of the Houghton Bloodstock draft.

“He’s been bought with Billy Jackson-Stops for a partnership between Valmont and Michael Blencowe,” said Elliott. “This colt was was George’s pick of the day so we’re delighted to get him. He comes from a very good farm, he’s got a fast pedigree and he looks like a horse we can get on with. I like Dutch Art as a broodmare sire and Cotai Glory consistently punches above his weight."

Mehmas' group included a 70,000gns filly out of Perfect Light sold by Chasemore Farm to Ed Sackville and Manor House Stables.

Many thanks to everyone who supported our own draft - we wish them the best of luck and look forward to seeing them on the racecourse!
