Listed success for Kodiac colt

Talented Kodiac colt Atlantic Coast added another stakes win to his record on Friday when pulling off a successful raid at Saint-Cloud.

Al Shira'aa Racing's homebred was sent over to contest the Listed Prix Matchem and having assumed a prominent position under Dylan Browne McMonagle, had enough in reserve to fend off Elbaz and win with something in hand.

It was his second stakes win for Joseph O'Brien following last year's Group 3 Killavullan Stakes.

"We are very happy," said Al Shira'aa's Kieran Lalor. "He didn’t have his ground during his two previous outings. He had a very good year as a 2-year-old, but it was harder for him this year. Today, he was well ridden, his jockey was very patient. This victory is important, because we bred him and we still have the dam. We had a few offers for him, but our intention is to keep him. I don’t know if we will see him again this year. His trainer will decide. He didn’t have a hard fight and he will do a good 4-year-old."

Atlantic Coast was bred by Al Shira'aa out of Liwa Palace, a Group-placed Oasis Dream granddaughter of Fillies' Mile winner Aqaarid. He becomes Kodiac's eighth European stakes winner of the year.
