It was a momentous day for Mehmas at Goffs in Doncaster on Thursday.
Progeny of Mehmas rewrote the record books on three occasions at the Goffs Breeze-Up Sale topped by a colt out of Rapid Reaction, who became the first ever Donny millionaire when sold by Katie Walsh's Greenhills Farm to Godolphin for £1,000,000. He was followed by our colt out of Boost, who also smashed the previous Donny record (£660,000) by selling to Godolphin for £720,000.

There was also a great result for Michael Fitzpatrick’s Kilminfoyle House Stud courtesy of a filly out of Atlantic Drift who sold for £650,000 to Blandford Bloodstock.
“It’s unbelievable,” said Katie Walsh on the millionaire. “I’m delighted for my clients, he’s owned by a big syndicate. They gave €140,000 for him as a foal and it didn’t happen for them as a yearling, so they asked me if I’d breezed him. He’s been extremely straightforward. Mehmas is obviously having a fantastic time and this colt has a lovely pedigree.”
The colt was bred by Milestream Stud Company out of the Group 2-placed Shamardal mare Rapid Reaction.
We were delighted to see Godolphin come away with out colt out of Boost. He is a half-brother to talented sprinter Benefit.
“Tally-Ho have a good tradition of producing breeze-up horses,” said Anthony Stroud. “He did a good breeze and just looked exactly like what he’s meant to be - a real two-year-old. We bought a few Mehmas yearlings for Godolphin last year, including the half-brother from the same hotel. He’s a very nice horse.”

Other highlights for Mehmas included:
A colt out of Shumookhi, sold by Longways Stables for £350,000 to Blandford Bloodstock
A colt out of Natheer, sold by Powerstown Stud for £260,000 to Blandford Bloodstock
A colt out of Zaur’s Heart, sold by Grove Stud for £200,000 to Blandford Bloodstock
A colt out of Aluwaina, sold by Hyde Park Stud for £180,000 to Paul Harley
Mehmas ended the sale with an average of £278,847 for 13 sold.
“They run with their heads low to the ground," Richard Brown was quoted as saying. "If you watch them when they’re under pressure, their heads get lower and lower, it’s just the way they gallop.”
Kodiac’s draft was led by the sale out of homebred colt out of Dawn Crusade for £205,000 to Michael O’Callaghan.
Our young sire Starman was well received with his draft led by our filly out of Inuk, who was bought by Michael O’Callaghan for £80,000.
It’s well documented how we have been selling at this sale since its first edition in 1977 and we were delighted to end this year’s renewal as the leading vendor.
Best of luck to all the buyers - Godolphin, Stroud Coleman, Rogues Gallery, Stephen Thorne, Transatlantic Thoroughbreds, Prince Sultan bin Mohammed, Archie Watson, Blandford Bloodstock, Highflyer Bloodstock, William Haggas, Valfred Valiani, Ollie Sangster, Gary Moore, J and A. Young and A. Kobeissi.
