Million guinea colt highlights incredible Book 1 for Mehmas

A phenomenal Tattersalls October Book 1 sale saw Mehmas return his first ever million guinea yearling.

The colt in question was our half-brother to multiple Group 1 winner Perfect Power who was sold to Godolphin for 1,000,000gns. He is out of the Frozen Power mare Sagely, also dam of the stakes-placed Golden Mind.

His sale was the highlight of an outstanding week for Mehmas that also included a half-brother to Mac Swiney sold by Clare Manning's Boherguy Stud on behalf of Jim Bolger for 800,000gns. He was also bought by Godolphin.

“I am thrilled,” said Manning. “I thought we were going well and to have Blandford Bloodstock and Godolphin get in a battle and then for the price to get to 800,000gns is wonderful. I have just been on the phone to 'granda' and he is delighted - over the moon. We are so pleased he has gone to a good home, we have had a good rapport over the years with Godolphin, so nice to see him go there.

“We felt he was good enough to come here and stand out. He is a true cross between 'Teo' and Mehmas. He is a May foal but he does not look like it because he is really strong. And he just walked up and down for fun. He has the smoothest action, you could stand and watch him all day. And Mehmas has certainly had a year of years on the track - getting the National Stakes winner [Scorthy Champ] and then the filly in the Marcel Boussac [Vertical Blue] - and this colt has been able to bathe in that reflected glory.

“He looks a quick, two-year-old type and of course Mehmas is doing very well,” said Anthony Stroud. “He’s a very nice horse who looks like he should - being a sharp type - and he came from a good farm and a very good breeder.”

Mehmas' representatives also included a filly out of Assurance sold by the Castlebridge Consignment for 420,000gns to Henry Lascelles, a filly out of Edelline sold by Lynn Lodge Stud for 400,000gns to George Boughey and a colt and filly who made 380,000gns apiece to WinStar Farm and The Hong Kong Jockey Club.

Overall, Mehmas returned an average of 343,125gns for 16 sold.
