Another weekend, another stakes winner for Mehmas.
A month after smashing the 5f track record at Meydan when taking the Group 2 Blue Point Stakes, 3yo West Acre added further to his record for Michael Blencowe and George Scott with a brave victory against his elders in the Group 3 Nad Al Sheba Turf Sprint.
Settled out the back as Ponntos set a scorcing pace up front, West Acre showed true battling qualities to run down the leader and win a shade cosily under Callum Shepherd.
"He dug deep, he was gritty and he still galloped out well after the line so I fancy him even better over 6f for the Al Quoz," said Callum Shepherd. "It was just harder work today, Ponntos put up a good fight but we'll be ready in five weeks."
One of 39 stakes winners for Mehmas, West Acre was bred by Tally-Ho Stud out of Lady Aria, a daughter of Kodiac who was Group 3-placed when second in the Dick Poole Stakes at Salisbury. He was bought by Alex Elliott and Billy Jackson-Stops for £95,000 out of our draft at the 2023 Goffs UK Premier Sale in Doncaster.
He joins last week's durable Listed scorer Clarendon House as stakes winners of the past week for Mehmas.
Not only is West Acre another talented performer for Mehmas but he also continues Kodiac's productive run as a broodmare sire. The Mehmas - Kodiac cross is also repsonsible for top sprinter Believing and last season's high-class 2yo Diego Ventura.
Lady Aria has a two-year-old filly by Starman.
