Kodiac was on at the mark at Deauville on Saturday when his tough daughter Cloudy Dawn broke through for William Haggas in the Group 3 Prix de Lieurey.
Always well positioned by Vincent Cheminaud, Cloudy Dawn came up against a determined foe in Just Beautiful but answered every call of her jockey to outbattle that challenger and win by a neck. The pair pulled a long way clear of the third.
Bred by George Strawbridge and London Thoroughbred Services, Cloudy Dawn carries the colours of James Wigan. A progressive filly, she now boasts four wins in seven starts having previously struck this season at Yarmouth and Lingfield.
She is a half-sister to Listed scorer Iromea and out of In The Mist, a winning Pivotal half-sister to top miler Grey Lilac, the dam of Classic-winning miler Golden Lilac, and Listed scorer Kandahar Run.
Cloudy Dawn becomes the 70th stakes winner for Kodiac, also represented this year by the Group 1 Commonwealth Cup heroine Campanelle.
