A high-class performer last season, Kodiac filly Star Of Mystery signalled that she could have a successful three-year-old campaign ahead of her with an impressive win in the Al Wasl Stakes at Meydan on Friday.
Despite giving away plenty of ground at the start, Star Of Mystery worked herself into the race under William Buick before coming with a powerful run to overcome the colt Starlust. Another talented Kodiac, Seven Questions, ran a good race in third for George Scott.
"She jumped slow but she had been in there a while," said William Buick. "She does like passing horses. As she showed there, she's a strong traveller. I was quite taken with how well she travelled through the race right to the furlong and a half pole. I was very pleased with her."
Star Of Mystery showed very smart form as a two-year-old for Charlie Appleby last season, notably when winning the Listed Empress Stakes at Newmarket by four lengths. The Godolphin homebred is out of the Listed-winning Shamardal mare Mistrusting and therefore bred on the same cross as Group winners Hello Youmzain, Gifted Master, Island Of Love and Umm Kulthum.
Kodiac stands for €35,000 in 2024.
