Starman crowned the ROA's Champion Sprinter of 2021

Another accolade came the way of Starman on Thursday when he was crowned the Racehorse Owners Association's Champion Sprinter of 2021.

In an admirably consistent season, Starman captured the Group 1 July Cup at Newmarket, with the likes of Dragon Symbol, Oxted and Creative Force in behind, and the Group 2 Duke Of York Stakes at York for owner/breeder David Ward and trainer Ed Walker. He was also second by only a rapidly diminishing short head in the Group 1 Betfair Sprint Cup and third in the Group 1 Prix Maurice de Gheest.

On Thursday, Starman came out on top over a group that included fellow Group 1 winners Creative Force, Dream Of Dreams, Oxted and Winter Power.

Ed Walker tweeted: "I am so blessed to have been involved with this very special horse. Circumstances meant we didn’t get to see his brilliance enough but he showed it in abundance on the July Course. I’m thrilled he has won this award and I’m sure he will continue to achieve great things."

In all, Starman won five races and almost £500,000 during his career. He stands for €17,500.
